That is the point, hence why the Malwarebytes creator in the thread I linked says;First off, Malwarebytes 3.0 is not an actual antivirus and we have never said that it was.Because these tools are about defensive capabilities, rather than just cleaning. Malwarebytes shares a lot of the traits in current anti-virus suites when it comes to defensive capabilities, how they enter, how they propagate but the overall heuristic patterns still differ for finding and neutralizing, thus they say it's not a straight replacement for an anti-virus but they claim it's 'good enough' due to its defensive capabilities.

Avast Is Down Message

Ask yourself, why would a developer sayFirst off, Malwarebytes 3.0 is not an actual antivirus and we have never said that it was.And why would Malwarebytes NOT disable Windows Defender when it's running by default, if it was an all-encompassing suite? Yes, because it's not the be-all and end-all security tool. What Malwarebytes does is try to plug the holes defensively, before it even enters the PC, which a lot of anti-virus suites also do. That means web protection, exploit mitigation, behavior analysis, payload analysis.People like to use Malwarebytes because it has a great reputation stemming from their earlier line and because they have a free version. People love the word free. There's effectively no difference between 'anti virus' and 'anti malware' software. That's just branding bullshit.

Ages ago we had tons of marketing for 'anti spyware' software. Recently there was a wave of 'security suite' branding. And if your software doesn't advertise protection against ransomware your marketing team is sleeping on the job. In the corporate world the buzzwords are 'APT' and 'UTM'.MBAM's free version doesn't include an always-running, live scanning component. You do not want to rely on the free version of MBAM as your only security software. The paid version does include services that run all the time and live scan everything. I know because I bought it for my parents. And its engine, heuristics, etc.

Is absolutely better than Windows Defender / Microsoft Security Essentials. I know because after installing it and setting it up I haven't had to fix a mess of shit and tell my parents they need to cancel their credit cards. Instead I saw the shit it blocked successfully that MSE / Windows Defender was letting through.

(And no, I'm not talking about false positives.)All anti virus software (or whatever else you want to call it) has its own strengths and weakness, and focuses on different protection strategies. Choose one that fits your needs.

For many people, MBAM's paid version will work great. (Though I didn't transfer the license to my parents's new PC.) And yes, it will cover viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, malware, etc. I was responding to your last part;Malwarebytes is the best choice for virus eradication. Anytime you felt your system has been compromised, run a malwarebytes scan.Which really isn't true, as the thread I linked, even the very creators say it's not an anti-virus suite and shouldn't be treated as such. So if you're already infected, Malwarebytes may not be enough. Malwarebytes has tried to establish themselves as the anti-virus suite replacement (hence much of the confusion), because it shares a lot of their defensive traits but it's still not an anti-virus suite replacement at core level. So yes, use it in conjunction with Defender or some other suite but just doing a scan with Malwarebytes alone is not enough to see if you are safe or not. Even in this thread, you can even see multiple people thinking it's a replacement;Stick with Windows Defender or get Malwarebytes.Except when you install an actual anti-virus suite, it disables Defender.

Installing Malwarebytes does not, because it's not a replacement, it's an extra layer. Well, technically there is no difference between malware and a virus, because a virus was just a subset of the malware umbrella. However, over the years, they seem to have drifted apart and taken on different a meaning in the public perception. And yes, you are right, what now lies under the malware umbrella (Trojans, ransomeware, dialers, keyloggers, spyware etc.) has become the most commonly seen type of attacks where as a good ole fashioned Virus infection has become somewhat of a rarity. However, you still have the problem of people using the free version of Malwarebytes, that does not feature active monitoring, which accounts for a majority of Malwarebyte's actual security.

Hey guys,I've been experiencing some major slow-downs with my internet after I installed Avast. So here's the thing:I see that Avast is taking up a lot of my internet, but I know this is because majority of applications like the IE, would need to bypass Web-Shield, so that's why I'd see Avast taking up most of my traffic (as shown in Resource Manager/Monitor).However, this doesn't explain anything. Now, my internet is slower than ever. I can't stream any online videos, including Youtube. They lag very much.Anyone know how to fix this issue with Avast, would appreciate it if you can help me out. Thanks in advance.
