I know that I have posted this before, but as far as I'm concerned the best way that I have found to convert the Harbor freight washer into a heated, non petroleum based washer is to heat it from the outside. Hank and I have been using ours for a half a dozen years and other than all the red paint being eaten off of the inside of the tank, it works great. What we did is to go down to Wallmart or such and buy a $15 pancake griddle. I then threw the plastic handles away, ground off the aluminum edge around the grill to make it completely flat, and propped it up under the tank with some cut 1/2' tube and plugged it in.

What you end up with is a 2k heater that has the plug in thermistat and will heat a cold tank up to a temperature that you can't dip your hands in, in about 2 to 3 hours!! It works great, doesn't have any contact with the liquid, has a means of controlling the temperature, leaves all the room in the tank for cleaning, and is cheap.

I plug it into a GFI receptacle for added safety. The only problem that I have found is that I keep experimenting with different concoctions of waterbased solvents that sometimes don't mix to well and turns my aluminum parts a dark titanium looking color. LOL I've used concrete cleaners, simple green, harbor freight solvent, and just about every other parts store brand there is. Usually it's just a mix of all the above. I don't cook with recipes.

I'm more a look what's in the pantry, add this and that, make sure it's spicey and go with it. It's about the only way I will ever be able to afford unobtanium.I do know that I had just changed out the solvent and had added a couple of gallons of simple green along with another autozone cleaner and was pleased with the way it was cutting the oil and grease off of the aluminum head I had in. Somewhere in the process I spied a gallon of degreaser hiding on a shelf and figured if some was good more must be better and proceeded to pour it in the tank.

It instantly started bubbling and creating a white foam on top of the liquid like I had poured something slightly acidic into a slightly base tank or visa versa. It finely neutralized and I thought everything was good, but when I pulled the head out the next morning, after sitting in this to hot to reach into concoction all night, it was a dark color instead of shiney aluminum.John Iroz01 225hp Audi TT83 Mars Red Urq 2.5l 20v stroker (dream stage)06 2.0TQ S-line A4 (wifes).Swagger Wagon is history00 VW 1.8T NB (daughters)97 HD F250 Powerstroke07 ST1300. It sounds like an ultrasonic system would be nice. I wish that instead of just warning about using cleaners made for cast iron on aluminum, that they would have given some brands and companys to order from. We use small ultrasonics at work to clean filters and small things, but I hadn't really envisioned a hot tank with ultrasonic. I think that I may try to incorporate an external pump on mine to get a little more agitation action. I have left the Harbor Freight parts pump that came with it on, but it really isn't enough pump to do much of anything.John Iroz01 225hp Audi TT83 Mars Red Urq 2.5l 20v stroker (dream stage)06 2.0TQ S-line A4 (wifes).Swagger Wagon is history00 VW 1.8T NB (daughters)97 HD F250 Powerstroke07 ST1300. We have been using this stuff at work for ten years. We tested it against solvent based cleaners, and it worked just as well. You mix it 5 to 1.

Any water based cleaner will work better when it is heated. Our machine at work allows us to soak the item we are cleaning, and then using the pump, thru the brush to clean it off. This stuff also works great for taking grease, oil, and other stains out of clothes before washing.I buy it in a 5 gallon bucket.Greg W.They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel. One of the rocket scientists in our Autocross and Hill Climb Promotion LLC just adopted a surplus 'probe type' ultrasonic cleaner. It's available to me on loan.I googled like crazy and still not sure what it looks like, size, etc.I'll have to go have a look, think it's portable and can be used in addition to any process/solvent.1987 elQUANTUMino Project1990 Pearl Coupe Quattro - Cone Killer SOLD1994 Silver 90Q 'Freeda' Snow Beater now RXer1992 Blue Eurovan '5+5' 'DasFeld'1992 Forest Green Cabriolet Project Gone1988 Red MR2 SuperchargedFuture? 1986 AE86 Coupe 1985 GTIWife's Ride 2002 Saab 9-5 'Baab the Saab'Parting 1993 90q 1996 A6Q Avant Gone.

Right, based on all the great feedback form all here, here is my 'how to' make a Hot Tank Cleaner.1) Buy a griddle: This one was $26 at WalMart. It was the only one they had in stock that wasn't tiny.2) Prep Griddle: Take off all plastics and discard, then take a grinder with a cutting disk, remove the 1/4' high lip around the griddle pan that catches fat. This would stop the heating surface contacting the parts washer tank.3) Clean and prep the parts washer. Mine is a Harbor freight unit I think, however it was free to me.( I added castors while I was at it so I could store the thing easier)4) Cut Qty 6, 2' long pieces of 1/2' angle iron, clean up the ends.

Then use these to hold the heater plate to the bottom of the parts washer tank. Weld the angle iron in place, making sure that it is holding the plate in compression. This will ensure good heat transfer from the plate to the tank. (yeah the weld was a bit overkill)add a little engine paint to stop corrosion on the new welds.5) Add some water based degreaser, dilute as desired. I figured I would start with this stuff and experiment from here.6) Plug it in, turn it on, put dirty stuff in it. I placed the parts washer outlet into the tank orientated to try to make a circular fluid flow. Seems to work well.Thats it, Ill see how it works.Cheers'Where the hell did all these worms come from?what can?oh yeah that can that I forced open earlier'www.motorsport-HT.comhttp://www.facebook.com/pages/HT-Motorsport/28564.
