Search In Zip Files
I recently upgraded to Windows 10 only to have difficulty with using the search function in the File Explorer. I have many gps log (.bin) files that are text based nmea CSV structure. They were very easy for XP to search but for some reason win10 hastroubles.I have indexing turned off, and have my folder search properties set to include both filename and contents but only when needed. Normally I have no need for file content searches.I have a folder containing 100 of these.bin files that I've been working with. I only get search results if no filter is applied.Some additional odd behavior I can't explain.1. If I zip a few of the files together into a single zip file.
Explorer will begin listing the zip files as containing the search string. Whats odd is that I have, 'compressed zip files' in the search advanced options unchecked. What's even more oddis, If I check the option to include zip files, then the listing will yield both the zip file name and the name of the file within the zip.This in my opinion is so contrary to what one would expect.
It appears no matter the zip selection, explorer will still waste your time looking through them.2. Plus many hours of other things.I was able to get reasonable results only after I removed all 'Indexing locations' in the Indexing Options.Apparently the indexing settings continue to affect the search results even when one thinks indexing has been disabled or bypassed.Similar to how search continues to search zip (compressed) files when the option to include zip files has NOT been selected.A lot of Window's nomenclature seems to have been written by the same person writing the instructions for cheap Asian products. I would suggest that you buy a Mac!
